Rabi’alAwwal 1430: past glimpses

With the glare of the early morning sun spilling over the mountain, the Mubarak birth place is bathed in light, but as is evident, the construction consumes a great swathe of land between Masjid al-Haram and the structure denoting where the Noble Aminah, may Allah Ta’ala’s supreme blessings forever enlighten her soul, welcomed our Beloved Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam as the mercy for all mankind.

a light which illuminated the whole world

Hassan ibn Thabit

Slightly closing the eyes one can almost imagine how this very site was transformed, not so long ago, with festive celebrations filling the Makkan Valleys. The light emanating from this tiny chosen piece of land will forever illuminate the whole world and by far outshines that of the sun, moon and stars!

O truly Muhammad, O you Mustafa,

You truly are Ahmad, you are Mujtaba;

You Taha, you Yasin, you are Abtahi,

You ummi, you Makki, you messenger true!

The first and the last you, and you are the prince,

You inward, you outward, you Prophet unique!

The Hashimi Prophet, Quraishi are you,

Whatever you say, God accepts it from you…

And you are the true lord of all the three worlds,

The house of religion, it prospers through you…

The Angels are moths all, surrounding your light,

The saints are the dust specks around you, the sun…

Brother Erphan, a Madani neighbour of our Blessed Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam, and the architect of this site, (the opening Ayat and Madeeh by Ahmad Abbasi is sublime!) has been so generously sharing knowledge he has been blessed with in the comments. The richness of his research needs to be exposed, hence the inclusion here of some of his contributions; slightly edited. The comment section contain the original. Insha’Allah more to follow in subsequent entries.

The auspicious moment when that Meccan Moon first blazed..
Countless Salutations be upon that heart-rekindling instant!

1. Hadrat Allama Mulla Ali Qari saying the routine of the people of Madina Munawwarah writes, “The people of Madina Munawwarah (May ALLLAH give them progress) on the occasion of Mawlid Shareef used to arrange and attend mawlid gatherings with enthusiasm and sincerity.” (Mawridar Riwa Fee Mawlidin Nabawi, pg 29)

2.  Ibne Jauzi says: “Fala Zaala Ahlul Haramainish Shareefain Wal Misr, Wal Yemen, Wash Shaam Wa Saa’iri Bilaadil Arabi Minal Mashriqi Wal Maghribi Yahtafiloona Bimajlisi Maulidin Nabiyyi Alaihis Salaatu Was Salaam Wa Yafrahoona Biqudoomi Hilaali Rabi’il Awwali Biharkati Maulidin Nabiyyi (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam)”.

“People of Haramain Shareefain (Makkah and Madinah) and Egypt and Yemen and Syria and of the eastern and western cities of Arabia hold functions in celebration of the birth of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam), rejoice at the sighting of the Rabi-ul-Awwal moon, bathe and put on their best dresses adorn themselves in various ways, put on scent, and give alms with great joy, and exert themselves in listening to the Meelaad of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam). By doing so, they themselves attain to success, as it has been proved that by celebrating the Meelaad of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) much good accrues the whole year round: security and comfort, greater means of livelihood, increase in children and in wealth, peace in cities and contentment and peace in homes”

Following him the great commander Sultan Salahuddin Ayyubi’s dearly loved Sultan Arbal Malik Abu Saeed Muzaffaruddin celebrated Meeladun Nabi officially. Ibn-e-Khalqaan Arabali Sha’fai was eyewitness of that festival. According to “Tareekh-e-Mar’atuz Zaman” billion of rupees were used to spend on those festvities. In 1207, He went to Sultan Arbal’s castle and presented his book on Mawlid to him, for which he was awarded thousand Gold Coins from Sultan. This was the status and respect of Mawlid Shareef in hearts of earlier leaders of Islam. Not only Sultan Arbal, King of Egypt celebrated the Mawlid Shareef; Allama Ibne Juzri Aleh Rehma is one the eyewitnesses. For the celebration of this festival 1000 Mithqal of Gold was spent on it. Sultan Abu Hamu Musa Talamsani and earlier rulers of Aqsa and Undalas used to Celebrate Meeladun Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam. Abdullah Tonsi Sum Talamsani has written the details of these festivals in his book “Rahal Arwah”.

Rabi’alAwwal 1430: another sigh

When Adam Alaihis Salam ate from the forbidden tree, and was exiled from Paradise, he spent three hundred years repenting and imploring forgiveness, weeping and wailing all the while:

The two of them said: ‘Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves. Unless You forgive us and have mercy on us, surely we shall be among the lost.’ (7:23)

One day as he tearfully pleaded: “My Lord pardon us for the sake of the Light of Muhammad that I bear,” the divine Compassion overflowed and he heard the words: “Adam, I have pardoned you and your wife for Muhammad’s sake. How did you learn of Muhammad’s standing in my sight?” Adam replied: “My Lord, as soon as I opened my eyes, when You had created me and given me life, I beheld the name of Muhammad along with Your noble Name in every part of Paradise I knew that the Universe had been created because of him, and that sinners would be forgiven for his sake.” The Lord then said: “Though a person’s sin be as deep as the ocean, as vast as the sun, I will pardon if My pardon is asked for Muhammad’s sake. I did exile you from Paradise, O Adam, but when I have installed his Community there I shall never exile them again. If someone worships Me, yet has no love in him for My Beloved Muhammad, I do not accept his worship though it mount from earth to sky.”

One sin should leave us sighing for a thousand days

Lord, I’ve sinned a thousand times, and not one day have I sighed!

O Allah! Send peace and blessings upon our master Muhammad and upon the children of Muhammad in every moment and every breath by the number of things that are known to You.

The noble Shaykh and Arif Muhammad Haqqi Afendi an-Nazili mentions some of the virtues of this salutation. He said that he asked his Shaykh for a litany which would increase him in knowledge, grant him closeness to Allah Ta’ala and a connection to the Messenger of Allah SallAllahu alaihi wasallam, so his Shaykh taught him Ayat al-Kursi (2:255) and this salutation and said that if he regularly recited this he would receive knowledge and secrets directly from the Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam, so much so that he would be under his persoanl care.

All good is from Allah Ta’ala whereas mistakes are from this humble speck. May Allah Ta’ala Bless all readers, bringing you all closer to Him and His Rasul SallAllahu alaihi wasallam.  May He accept our humble efforts and grant us the capacity to be good and do good. Ameen

Rabi’alAwwal 1430: how I sigh

To you my life I sacrifice, Muhammad

In both worlds you’re my remedy, Muhammad

Before I saw you, love filled me with yearning

I felt it even then, my Lord Muhammad

Your vision’s in my heart engraved forever

Naught but your beauty I behold, Muhammad

Body and soul this fire of love’s consuming

Prescribe the cure O Doctor Wise, Muhammad

If for your sake I am shattered all in pieces

Let my life be your ransom, O Muhammad

I am thirsty for love’s union, how I sigh

If only you will hear my cries, Muhammad

Be what may, should I unto your presence come

There at your feet I’ll ever stay, Muhammad.

Salat al-Aali al-Qadar

O Allah! Send blessings, prayers and peace upon our master Muhammad, the unlettered Prophet, the Beloved of great worth and standing, and upon his family and Companions.

Imam as-Suyuti has mentioned that whosoever is persistent with this salutation every Thursday night, the eve of Juma’ah, even if read only once, the the Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam will lay him down into his grave when he passes away.

JUMA’AH MUBARAK!

Rabi’alAwwal 1430: Chosen

The deep void of black nothingness
was chosen to receive the Light.
The ink from the pearly ruby Pen
was chosen to scribe the Light
The Preserved Tablet
was chosen to proclaim the Light
The jewel encrusted ‘Arsh
was chosen to reflect the Light
The loins of the pious
were chosen to carry the Light
The noble truthful son of Muttalib
was chosen to deliver the Light
The pure pristine womb of Aminah
was chosen to nurture the Light
The month of the first spring
was chosen to shine the Light
The golden sands of Makkah
were chosen to welcome the Light
This blessed Ummah of the Light
was chosen to be guided by the Light

Our heedless forgetful heart
has been chosen to be a receptacle of the Light
Our careless flippant tongue
has been chosen to send perpetual blessings upon the Light
SallAllahu alaihi wasallam.

Insha’Allah choose this Mubarak Month of Light
to excessively praise Allah Ta’ala
Who manifested His Light
in our chosen master Al-Mustafa
…a light-giving lamp. (33:48)
Allah and His Angels call down blessings on the Prophet. O you who have faith, call down blessings on him and ask for complete peace and safety for him. (33:56-57)

Insha’Allah choose to abundantly recite Salat and Salam,

firmly establishing and increasing love for the Light

in an ever expanding a grateful heart,

desirous of becoming closer to the Light on the Day of Judgement

and drinking from his hand in the Eternal Garden of Bliss

as one of the chosen.

Allahumma Salli ‘ala sayyidna Muhammadini’s-sabiqi li’l-khalqi nuruhu, wa r-rahmati li’l-’alamina zuhurhu, ‘abada mam mada min khalqika wa mam baqiya, wa man sa-’ida minhum wa man shaqiya, salatan tastaghriqu’l-’adda wa tuhitu bi;l-haddi, salatal la ghayata laha wa la’ntiha’a, wa la amada laha wa la’nqida’a, salatan da’imatam bi dawamika, wa ‘ala alihi wa sahbihi kadhalika. Wa’l-hummdu li’Llahi ‘ala dhalika.

O Allah, bless our liegelord Muhammad whose light preceded creation and whose appearance was a mercy for the worlds, blessings equal to the number of Your created beings who have passed and who remain, who are fortunate and who are wretched, blessings that use up all numbers and encompass all borders, blessings with no limits or bounds, no term nor end, blessings that last as long as You last, and the like of it upon his family and Companions. And for this may Allah be praised. Ameen

Preparatory Fireworks

Allah has manifested the Intercessor
The Possessor of the Elevated Station
And his light filled the horizons
It encompassed the entire Universe

The icons of Idolatry have been torn down
And the edifice of Idolatry has crumbled
And the Time of Guidance has drawn near
And the Fortress of Disbelief has violently shaken

Greetings and a Welcoming
To you, Oh Possessor of the Ennobled rank
Oh Master of the people of Revelation
The one whom evil is repelled by

You are a refuge on the day of gathering
For all creation shall flee to you
And call out to you saying
“Look at what has overcome us from atrocious terror”

- Mawlid by Habib Umar-

Alf ShukriLlah for these spectacular fireworks that seemed to herald the coming of Rabi’al Awwal.

JazakumuLlahu khairan for the special visitor to this humble space for sharing this Mawlid.

And the hope for understanding for another digression. I sat in the sisters courtyard for an hour looking at this amazing sky, wishing I were flying with the pigeons to gain an expansive view. I kept thinking to move outside where I could take photos, but continued to sit, until almost Adhan for Maghrib when I rushed out to quickly snap these images, raced back for Salat, and then out again.

May hearts be preparing for Rabi’al Awwal with inner fireworks to awaken us from the slumber of this Dunya.
