…distance…

…while wandering the Madanian streets, a stream of swirling thoughts tend to take over…what struck me here was ‘distance’…the physical distance between this street scene and Masjid Nabawi, tucked in behind the newer buildings…the technological distance spanning the engineering and construction of these contrasting buildings…and what of the distance these satellite dishes span, bringing the entire world in front of one’s eyes, whilst simultaneously having the potential of totally distancing one from reality…as well as divorcing one from He Who promises to run to us if we walk to Him…Whose Presence can be felt without any external dish by fine tuning our heart to shorten the distance, bringing Him into pristine focus…Ya Rabb, Ya Lateef, Ya Wadud!!

…the emotional distance, that seems to be determined by our stubborn nafs, preventing a closeness to our Rabb and His Habib SallAllahu alaihi wasallam…the distance between pleasure and happiness is as vast as that between earth and heaven…as long as the heart is not tuned to its proper pitch one will not know the short distance to happiness…

…and the spiritual distance…that nebulous space between the seen and the unseen…what is the distance between us and the Angels, who we are told, are constantly roaming the streets looking for those engaged in the Dhikr of Allah Ta’ala…and what is the distance between us and Shaytan and his wretched army…

…what is the distance travelled by the Angels in carrying an accepted prayer to the Heavens, as opposed to the distance a soiled rag is thrown at the one offering an unacceptable prayer…or contemplate on the exquisiteness of the distance between our forehead in sujood and Allah Ta’ala…SubhanAllah!!!

…what is the distance between Malakul Maut and you or I right this second…or the distance of time between now and the Trumpet Blast…or the distance between us and the Fire…

…distance…

…now is the month of Rajab…what is the distance between our tongue being motivated by our heart to be uttering copious Istighfar and the actualization of this during this month of forgiveness…

…this is the month when our Noble Nabi SallAllahu alaihi wasallam and his Sahabah RadhiAllahu anhum travelled the enormous distance to Tabuk, it was the last battle Rasulullah SallAllahu alaihi wasallam participated in…what distances do we travel for the cause of our Deen…what is the distance between us knowing what the Sunnah is and actually practicing it…

…the distance is but a few moments before Ramadhan…what distance lies between us and our readiness for this joyous visitor…the month of the Qur’an…the month of purifying…what distance have we stepped in preparation…

…the shortest distance between a problem and it’s solution is the distance between your knees and the floor… the one who kneels to Allah Ta’ala can stand up to anything…

…and what is the distance between the drop as it becomes the ocean…what distance are you experiencing right now??

…Insha’Allah, this speck will be back after returning from the physical 400km distance from the Abode of our Beloved Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam to his Mubarak birth place, and from where, during this month of Rajab, he rode the Buraq to meet His Rabb Subhanahu wa Ta’ala…a distance we can only barely imagine…and yet Rasulullah SallAllahu alaihi wasallam

was at a distance of two bows’ length or (even) nearer.
(53:9)

Insha’Allah, may the distance between us all, and all that brings a nearness to Allah Ta’ala and His Rasul SallAllahu alaihi wasallam be forever decreasing, and may our Jannah be where there is no distance between us and our Rabb and our Blessed Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam, Ameen.

All good is from Allah Ta’ala whereas mistakes are from this humble speck. May Allah Ta’ala Bless all readers, bringing you all closer to Him and His Rasul SallAllahu alaihi wasallam.  May He accept our humble efforts and grant us the capacity to be good and do good. Ameen.

I love you experiment with spatial/temporal metaphors in this piece. Truly, it is the distance which determines how much we hesitate or don’t and a clear sign of progress and qurb is when we find at-ta’at easy to perform.

    Jazaka Allahu khayran.

Subhan’Allah, I loved this rajab reminder.
Duas please that this needy one can find her way to the door and be amongst the proximate, that he takes us by the hand and the heart, out from the dark into the light.

Please convey my salaams to the gate to Allah and his noble companions and ask that I may revisit and remain to join those resting in al- Baqi.

Assalamu alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu,
    Dear ALL,
JazakumuLlahu khairan katheeran to all for visiting, especially those commenting for the first time, always a pleasure to feel the presence of readers :)
Dear Brother Abdul-Qadir, the area is not Awali, but diagonally opposite from it…near Dawdiyyah, but the older areas share a similar ambiance and ooze humility, unlike the modern buildings.
Ameen thumma Ameen Dear ‘lost soul’…my constant Du’a too!
Ta muchly for you fountain of kindness and the link Dear Irving Darvish :)
Dear Dawud, lyemoon and Jasmine, Insha’Allah will visit your spaces when a small window of time opens for me…real life too much buzz these days for the virtual net…a dilemma!
Dear Sister Ayd, Insha’Allah your fellow compatriot is on her way to this City of Radiance right now.
