…towards Uhud 14 floors up…14 centuries back…

…as the eye sees it now…and how the heart’s gaze ponders some of the moving incidents from the past…

Masjid Abu Dhar…the road parallel to the right of this photo is where our Beloved Prophet and his army marched towards Jabal Uhud for the confrontation with the Quraysh…it was Juma’ah after the final decision to fight the battle outside of Madinah had been made…Rasulullah put two coats of mail on, but still some of the Sahabah RadhiAllahu anhum thought it best to remain within the city, but Rasulullah said: “It is not fitting that a prophet who has put on his armour should lay it aside until he has fought”…

…soon one thousand set off until they reached Al-Shaut, which was between Madinah and Uhud when ‘Abdullah ibn Ubayy cowardly withdrew his men, as did the waverers and doubters of ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr ibn Haram…leaving the devout to a mere 700 against approximately 3000 who were well equipped by comparison…

…the journey was not without incident…trying to take a route that would not pass near the Quraysh they passed by Banu Haritha which then entered the territory of the blind Mirba’ ibn Qaysa, who threw dust in the faces of the Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam and some of the Sahabah RadhiAllahu anhum saying: “You may be the Prophet of Allah but I won’t let you through my garden!” The companions rushed to kill him but Rasulullah SallAllahu alaihi wasallam said: “Do not kill him for this blind man is blind of heart and blind of sight.”

Masjid Sheikhain marks the place where they spent time and made final plans for the attack…

…throughout the battle, the Prophet of forgiveness and mercy would often be seen raising his hands to the heavens with heart-felt prayer, even when he was bleeding profusely: “O Allah, forgive my people, for they do not know.”

…Anas ibn Nadr, the uncle of Anas ibn Malik RadhiAllahu anhaa had sworn allegiance at ‘Aqabah, but was full of regret as he had missed fighting at Badr. He said to Rasulullah SallAllahu alaihi wasallam: “O Messenger of Allah, if Allah allows us to confront them once more, they will see what suffering I will inflict on them!” He fought fearlessly, especially when the Muslims suffered a reverse, and just before being martyred he told Mu’ath ibn Jabal with a smile, ‘By Allah I sense the fragrance of Jannah behind Uhud.’

Such Iman, such Ikhlas, SubhanAllah!

…also during the second stage of the battle ‘Abdullah ibn Jahsh RadhiAllahu anhu, the son of the Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam’s paternal aunt, said to S’ad ibn Abi Waqqas: “Come on and pray, and I’ll say Ameen for your prayer and then I’ll pray and you say Ameen for mine.” Sa’d prayed: “O Allah, make me encounter one of the strongest enemy soldiers, and let me defeat him.” Ibn Jahsh said Ameen and then prayed: O Allah, let me encounter one of the strongest enemy soldiers, let him kill me, and cut off my ears, nose and lips so that I come to Your Presence bleeding profusely. You will ask me: ‘Abdullah where are your ears, nose and lips?’ and I will reply: ‘O Allah, I was ashamed to come to Your Presence with my limbs with which I has sinned, so I sacrificed them while fighting in the way of Your Beloved One.’”

His body was found with his ears, nose and lips cut off!

Such Iman, such Ikhlas, SubhanAllah!

…and here is a very early post on the Ghar Uhud where the Sahabah RadhiAllahu anhum carried our Blessed Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam after he was wounded in the battle…

…Insha’Allah you spend time this Juma’ah recollecting our glorious past as your eyes scan this Madanian horizon and making Du’a for the Ummah, especially for all in this Radiant City…

JUMA’AH MUBARAK!

All good is from Allah Ta’ala whereas mistakes are from this humble speck. May Allah Ta’ala Bless all readers, bringing you all closer to Him and His Rasul SallAllahu alaihi wasallam.  May He accept our humble efforts and grant us the capacity to be good and do good. Ameen.

Wa ‘alaikumus Salam Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu,
    Dearest Sister Anisa,
JazakiLlahu khaira for your appreciation. It has been a tad difficult lately trying to maintain a semblance of blogging as I have been meeting so many. And sometimes I do feel embarrassed asking if I can take photos from their hotel window :) Maybe too much is placed on ‘thinking’ of the blog, but then when I know there are supporters as yourself I guess this space has a place in this speck’s cosmos and Alhumdulillah good friends are more than accommodating :)
Dearest Ayd, Ameen for your return with your eager ‘students’ of our Islamic knowledge. Yes, unfortunately so much has been lost…but Alhumdulillah for access to such detailed authentic records of our history.
Dearest umm myaikandlittle”y”…for some reason your Salam was caught in spam…it must find your wonderful title a threat LOL! I usually delete spam without really checking it, but quickly scanned it today and saw you hiding there :)
    Wassalamu alaikum

Really amazed how quickly you assemble material for your post!Your present post brought back memories of 14 centuries ago and of this recent trip when we sat together gazing at Uhud from our hotel window. You are doing such a great favour to us by providing such useful information so we, rather than you, should be embarassed for not being of enough help!May Allah SWT give you energy to keep going and making us feel as if we too are physically present in the city of our beloved Prophet sallallahu alayhe wasallam.Duas needed as always!Wassalamualaikum.

Wa ‘alaikumus Salam Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu,
    Dearest Mumtaz and family,
Ameen thumma Ameen to your much needed Du’a :)
Been to two other hotels since our wonderful time together, but no views as such. The ‘Haram view’ option is so much more expensive in the hotels around Haram, so many choose the ‘city view’ which can be interesting like where you were, Alhumdulillah.
    Insha’Allah you return again soon,
    Wassalamu alaikum
