…north:south…

… the northern side of Masjid Nabawi used to be where our Beloved Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam would depart and return from al-Sham…present day Jordan, Syria, Palestine  (YA RABB…shower Your Rahmah upon these ancient lands and their dear people…InshaAllah each and every one of you continue with istiqama in making Du’a for all that was al-Sham) …where camel trains of thousands would arrive and depart…where armies and forays would set out and return…for Uhud, Khyber, Tabuk being battles fought to the north…by tuning the imagination of the heart we can almost hear and smell and see so many of the Sahabah RadhiAllahu anhum trading, living, visiting, farming this very land…

…today it is a very congested side of Masjid Nabawi…especially after each Salat when the street vendors set up their trolleys and mats on the ground with hardly any space in between for pilgrims to reach their hotels…the above photo was taken immediately at the end of Asr Salat with sisters waiting for customers…the brothers do not seem to join the Safr in favour of being ready for brisk business the minute Salam is said…the walkways between the fence and the hotel shops become packed with much yelling to get attention to buy…how different from the atmosphere during the time of our Noble Nabi SallAllahu alaihi wasallam…but the things that are not different is Islam, Iman and Ihsan…Insha’Allah all who are invited here make these the focus and negotiate these market areas making the Du’a for attending a market place and in Dhikr…

…this northern side will see the greatest changes one the expansion demolitions begin…

…the southern Qiblah side leads to Makkah…spending time in the courtyard, especially late in the night, is the so peaceful…the tranquility pierces the heart regardless of what it may be holding…sitting quietly cleanses…it is almost as one sees all the unnecessary dross being lifted and dissipated…the fourth pillar along this wall is the closest a sister can physically be to our Blessed Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam…what more earthly bliss could one ever hope or want?

…volumes could be filled with photos of all the various scenes in the market area directly over the road from what used to be the Aswaq al-Haram…still many of the buildings are repositories for rubbish while some have been converted into a medical depot and used by the police and guards…for the moment this southern side outside the courtyard fence is relatively free of the hustle and bustle of the north…with many hotels still under construction in this vicinity, many walkways are partially fenced leaving the narrow alleys, already with goods spilling into them like an obstacle course…

…soon the establishments on this side with be joyous once the shift from the north begins…the higher levels in hotels such as this one will offer views directly towards The Dome of Felicity…

…the Qiblah hotel, the biggest in Madinah moves closer to completion after ten years since the excavation was dug…

…the almost deserted walkway between the courtyard fence and the old Aswaq al-Haram…before its demise this area was pulsing with activity…Alhumdulillah after Maghrib each day the Fuqara are offered simple meals and tea, with dozens availing themselves of this khidmah…

…built on Taqwa…

…this used to be a haven of delight…a serene courtyard offering shade from the blessed date palms with diamonds of rainbow mist from the fountains…this is where our first Masjid was built…not only built on Taqwa, piety, but by the hands of our Beloved Rasul SallAllahu alaihi wasallam…and the hands of the early Sahabah RadhiAllahu anhum who sacrificed so much as they accepted and established the Deen in their hearts…what stories this very piece of land could relay…how many footsteps were made by our Noble Nabi SallAllahu alaihi wasallam as he trod the distance between the place of the original humble Masjid and the well that was just to the right of this photo?…the well where he would sit with his favoured ones as they dangled their feet over the edge, drank from the sweet water, changed from the salty water it was by his Mubarak saliva…exuding love in the words and actions they exchanged…and what of the thousands of illustrious followers, scholars, awliya…and seekers of the Truth over the thousands of centuries?…SubhanAllah! bliss surges in the heart pondering over all that has gone before…and to know that his SallAllahu alaihi wasallam Mubarak ring was dropped in this well by Uthman RadhiAllahu anhu…still hidden there to this day…

…these signs are strategically placed at all the entrances…Alhumdulillah for the reminder of the significance of this Masjid…pity grammar is not checked before they become public…how beautiful is it that two Rak’ats are blessed with the same thawab as Umrah…SubhanAllah…such is the importance Allah Ta’ala placed on this Masjid and its place in the hearts of the Ummah…

…but now…the entire courtyard has been consumed by this tasteless prefabricated shed…built on the sobs of the vanished date palms…

…the purpose for its appearance is uncertain…

…maybe to extend the prayer area for men…but surely the hundreds who previously offered their Salat in the courtyard would be happier under a palm tree with birds sweetly chirping rather than the booming hollow acoustics this has…better to feel the breeze from the fountains rather than be huddled in this giant shed?

…the sisters space is already overflowing and congested with hundreds forced to offer their Salat in the small open courtyard in their area…

…some surmise it is a shed to consolidate the vendors who currently spread their wares beside the car park…

…Allahu ‘Alum…once the purpose is known it will be posted…

…one row of palms have been left between the shed and the fountain area to the right…but the fountains have not been turned on for some time according to locals who frequent Masjid Quba regularly…

…regardless of the reasoning…this is so sad…Insha’Allah all are steadfast with Du’a for conditions in the Haramain…

…the first photo courtesy of Sister Iman…see more of her photography and art work here

…Insha’Allah more in the next post from this Umrah visit…

…abomination…and…

…words could never describe the wanton destruction done to our beloved Ghar Uhud…synonyms may express horror, sacrilege, scandal, violation, disgrace, desecration…an all too familiar word associated with our heritage and places with direct associations with out Blessed Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam…never again will the interior of the cave see the light of day…

…as the entrance has been SEALED with a huge wall of concrete!!!!! not visible in this photo taken yesterday by my VVVBFF the DH…yes, the previous hideous signs have gone…as the ‘authorities’ are confident the new wire fence that snakes its way from the ‘bandage place’ will meet the section at the foot of Jabal Uhud near the building currently being constructed…weird…as not many years ago there were rumours that all housing would be demolished around this ‘mountain that loves us and we love it’...

…where is the respect due to Babul Jannah????

…but not to despair…as the ‘beautification’ around the Shuhadaa site is ongoing with newly installed light fittings…

…and work on the new Masjid in progress…

~*~

…and totally unrelated…

…this is the view almiskeenah has had for the past few weeks…hence explaining the prolonged absence from updating this space and the neglect in replying to comments or answering emails…Insha’Allah your Du’a is very much needed as this needy one, once again faces surger…meaning further delays before I will have the energy or access to posting…Alhumdulillah the ‘list’ is with me and being frequently read…apologies…with love…

…hot..crowds…disbelief…grumble…

Al-Ghars well taken almost two years ago…

…from when this patch of concrete was a window…this is how it is now…

…Al Ghars Well taken today from the grill seen to the left of the photo below…

…where not so long ago the Asmaa ul-Husna adorned the walls…but no longer…the efforts to prevent seekers and lovers from what few sites remain of our rich and illustrious heritage beggars belief…

…as does the presence of the ‘vice squad’ in Masjid Fa’th shouting to the crowds, who have braved extreme heat to visit the notable sites, that they are not permitted to pray there…

…the flow of pilgrims up and down the steps was dense…as it was at all the main places for Ziyarah…buses were lined up in the hundreds at Khandaq, Quba, Qiblatain and the site of the Shuhadah at Uhud…with private cars and taxis adding to the traffic congestion…

…the next disbelief was to find that the Salman Farisi Masjid is locked…but this did not prevent those wanting to offer Salat there from ‘borrowing’ a prayer mat from the vendor and praying in the doorway…

…but what is permitted are these traders in droves…disregarding the hazard they cause as the crowds attempt to negotiate getting to the place of significance…and a total disregard for the rubbish that is created…

…and also what is permitted are the tons of cheap imported clothes with inappropriate and unnecessary images for us as the Ummah of Rasulullah SallAllahu alaihi wasallam…

…colourful summery scenes…

…all that is missing is the water!!!

…I can never understand why the presence of these vendors, in such numbers, selling the same items everywhere are all obviously condoned…and yet we are not allowed to look into an historic well…grumble grumble…

…and why so many pilgrims are so easily distracted from the actual reason why they are making such an effort, in the searing sun, ‘to go shopping’…the presence of the Shayateen’s favourite haunt, markets, must have them laughing heartily…AstaghfiruLlah…

…Sayyidna Hamza RadhiAllahu anhu’s resting place is only visible through various holes that have been broken in the opaque perspex that has been erected to ‘prevent’ us looking in…where does this attitude come from…what harm is it for the Ummah to ‘see’ that which fills the heart with love and a sublime awe for our golden past??

…instead we are ‘forced’ to see these dusty, ugly, messy stalls…littering where the esteemed Sahabah RadhiAllahu anhu sacrificed so much…where our Beloved Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam was wounded…why have we allowed our attention, our love, our Deen, to be sabotaged??? AstaghfiruLlahu…

…where the traders re constantly ‘dusting’…grumble grumble…

…foundations for the new Masjid at the Shuhadah site…looking towards Jabal Uhud…

…returning to the courtyard with the spraying mist under the shade of the umbrellas was a welcomed and serene balm for the dehydrated body…and soul…

…Insha’Allah…please make excessive Du’a for the Haramain…for the Ummah to not only LOVE the Deen but to ACTUALIZE it from deep within their hearts so that the limbs portray this love, Ameen…

…today’s walk to Masjid Nabawi…

O Allah! Bestow blessings on Sayyidina Muhammad,
who is the best among Prophets sent by You
and the most noble among Your chosen people,
the leader of the saints, and the Seal of the Prophets,
and the beloved of the Lord of the Worlds,
a witness for the Messengers of Allah (on the Day of Judgement)
and the intercessor for sinners,
the leader of all the children of Prophet Adam Alayhissalaam;
whose remembrance has been exalted among the highest angels,
who brings glad tidings (of heaven) and warns (against hell-fire),
a shining light, truthful, trustworthy, manifest truth,
most kind and merciful, the guide to the straight path,
whom You gave the seven often-repeated verses of Surah Fatiha
and the magnificent Qur’an,
the Prophet of mercy and the guide of the nation,
the first one to be resurrected and to enter paradise,
and one who is supported by angels Jibril and Meekaail,
whose coming had been foretold in the Torah and the Bible,
Mustafa, Mujtaba, the selected one, the father of Qasim,
Muhammad, son of ‘Abdillah, son of ‘Abdil Muttalib, son of Hashim.

…gone…going…

…the building on the left and below has gone…

…what was a colourful and distinct landmark for telling people where to turn off the main Qurban St, that leads out of Madinah, how to get to our place is history…along with so many other places…and with many more about to be reduced to rubble…

…the majority of visitors to the Kingdom wear expressions of disbelief when they realize that there are no street directories, no street addresses and no postal delivery…prominent landmarks are the only means of describing any location…finding places can be like a treasure hunt…often with the same elation of actually arriving at your destination being akin to discovering a treasure!!

…the demise of buildings along this very narrow congested stretch is preparing for roadworks that Insha’Allah will eventually improve the access from Haram towards the Quba area and the Hijrah Highway…

…meanwhile the disruption requires patience…

…and forbearance…especially for the elderly and the vendors, as no passing traffic means a slump in trade…

…interesting how previous little hidden abodes become exposed..but I guess not for long…lessons in how temporal life is…a sort of similitude to lessons on Tazkiyatul Nafs…as we ‘demolish’ one thing  another layer is exposed for attack, and hopefully conquer, by clearing the rubble away…before yet another and another is revealed…and so life goes on…Insha’Allah Allah Ta’ala gives us Tawfiq with this process of going going gone…

…looking across to Masjid Bilal…

…while a little further towards Haram this food outlet defies all the activity around it and still serves fired foods and tea…but how long can it last?

…the flimsy construction now sits on a precipice that is part of the works related to what will be the new Ring Road…

…it is now within the boundary of the work behind concrete blocks…within a very confined area…but still customers sit there…

…scenes from this same area last October…also photos of the ‘cardboard house’ (see below) which was just opposite this tea hut…

…and going…the overhead bridge that eventually will be demolished when the new section is complete…

…all that remains of the ‘cardboard’ house…backtracking to when it was ‘lived in’…12…a mystery why even these two items remain…

…and going…Dear Khala and Chacha who have been in this humble building in Awali, running a Madrassah for young girls and small boys for nigh on thirty seven years are moving this week…previous related posts…12

…all those years living with a tree growing from within the kitchen and the open sky in one section of the house, SubhanAllah!! the Madrassah will continue as it benefits so many girls in that area and Khala and Chacha’s new abode is too far away for them to attend there…

…gone are the quirky features that have defined their home for so long…Insha’Allah make Du’a for a peaceful and relaxing adjustment in their brand new accommodation…

…may all who have been blessed to study here, or visit, continue to keep Khala and Chacha in their Du’a and may all their sacrifices made for the sake of Allah Ta’ala be as huge as mountains and as deep as oceans in their Akhirah…AMEEN!

…snap::twenty-three…

…snap twenty-three…this morning’s sunrise ruby…with a dash of Rumi Rahmatullah alaihi…

In the early morning hour,
just before dawn, lover and beloved wake
and take a drink of water.

She asks, “Do you love me or yourself more?
Really, tell the absolute truth.”

He says, “There is nothing left of me.
I’m like a ruby held up to the sunrise.
Is it still a stone, or a world
made of redness? It has no resistance
to sunlight.”

This is how Hallaj said, I am God,
and told the truth!

The ruby and the sunrise are one.
Be courageous and discipline yourself.

Completely become hearing and ear,
and wear this sun-ruby as an earring.

Work. Keep digging your well.
Don’t think about getting off from work.
Water is there somewhere.

Submit to a daily practice.
Your loyalty to that
is a ring on the door.

Keep knocking, and the joy inside
will eventually open a window
and look out to see who’s there.
