Pictorial Makkah: then, now, maybe.
Feb 16th, 2009 by almiskeenah

I digress from the intended continuation from the last post. This entry is a response to Muslimah asking in the previous comment section where the work is happening around Masjid al-Haram. Insha’Allah this clarifies the scene a little and is of benefit.
Then:

Pilgrims performing Sai’ more than one hundred years ago! Compare to the new Masa’a!!

Approximately one year ago, the demolition of the built up area (above left) began. More than a thousand buildings have been demolished making way for the extension of Haram and a residential complex.

Looking down towards Haram of the same area, to the left, with an artists impression of how the completed Abraj al-Bayt Towers will be.
Now:

A recent aerial view of the same area devoid of buildings.

The same photo with the addition of explanatory coloured areas defining the current projects.
The green dot marks the Mubarak place where our Beloved Prophet was born, the date of which is soon upon us, Insha’Allah.
Lime green: Jabal Omar project.
Pink: The existing Royal Palace complex which is destined to be moved.
Red: Al-Khandamah development which will be another major hotel area.
Blue: Part of the recently acquired land from the massive demolition to be incorporated into the Haram proper. (see model below)
Yellow: The area of the Shamia pilgrim hotel accommodation project.
A series of photos showing the progress of the Shamia work, sourced from here. I have linked to this site in the past, and I suggest you book mark it if you are interested in keeping up with the changes in Makkah. There are excellent contributors posting regular updates and photos.

The following are of the facade of the new Masa’a.

Maybe:

Various companies submit proposals for all of the potential projects. Some of these plans appear on the net, but are not necessarily the ones accepted, so many of the designs we may see are speculative. Others have been approved, but some modifications have been made. For example the addition of the clock tower on the Abraj al-Bayt central tower and changes to the Jabal Omar design.
The above and the following four images are for the Shamia area. (yellow in above diagram)

As mentioned in previous posts, this is a model for the expansion of Haram, the top segment being the new extension. (blue area in explanatory diagram)

The decision to cover the Mataf area with shade tents has been approved. And Allah Ta’ala knows best when this will be executed.

Model of the Jabal Omar project. Compare the details of this desgin to the board illustrating the project from previous post to see the differences from a proposed idea to the final design.

I add an impression of how Mina may become if they continue with the plan to construct towers along the foothills of the mountains as an alternative to some of the tents.
So many ideas have been circulating, including the plans for the monorail and the rail links to Jeddah and Madinah, which also will impact on the overall design of Makkah.
And Allah Ta’ala knows best as to how this Sacred Site will eventually be.
All good is from Allah Ta’ala whereas mistakes are from this humble speck. May Allah Ta’ala Bless all readers, bringing you all closer to Him and His Rasul SallAllahu alaihi wasallam. May He accept our humble efforts and grant us the capacity to be good and do good. Ameen.
Asalamualaikum,
interesting post Mashallah,
I guess by the time they will be finished building all the buildings our two blessed cities will not look like there own cities, with all those humongous buildings surrounding them! i thing they will look like the real city here in Australia !
and also i cant understand how big they wish to build such huge hotels such as the yellow space.
Jazakallah,and du`as as always
Wassalam.
Asiyah
Assalamu AlaikumWa Rahmatullah,
A very fascinating (yet in a way quite sad) post, Mashallah.
Sometimes I try to think how our Rasul (S.A.W)would have felt if he knew what would happen to his two beloved and blessed cities!
Jazakallahu Khairan for all the effort and time you put towards this blog;it is very much appreciated by us all here at Darul Khair.
Wasalam and lots of love,
Maryam
Wa ‘alaikumus Salam Dear Asiyah and Maryam,
JazakumuLlahu khairan for your thoughtful comments about our Sacred Haramain. There are so many aspects to how the developments are changing the face of Makkah and Madinah, with just as many views being expressed. Some in favour, others against.
I think by the subject of various Ahadith that Rasulullah SallAllahu alaihi wasallam was very much aware of what would happen, predicting times of opulence and fearing for our wealth. Maybe this could be a research topic for your Homes School, Darul Khair, says Aunty Noor the expert home work giver
Wassalamu alaikum
Salam alaikum,
I hope you don’t mind that I’ve added a pictures page on my blog with links to your Makkah picture pages.
BarakAllahufeeki.

Alhumdulillah!
‘DUDEY
May Allah Ta’ala get you taking pictures to share with us all on your blog from the Holy Haram, Insha’Allah.

I’d greatly appreciate the chance to learn more as to where you got your data from. I’m currently working on a project looking at real estate in Makkah and would greatly appreciate the chance to get your thoughts.
Best,

Assalamu alaikum Dear Brother Faisal,
I am not sure what aspects of real estate you are working on…and really my knowledge/information is limited. This site, which I have linked to in the past covers the construction side:

I also check links from ads in the local papers and see where they lead me, and I do have a connection about some projects in Madinah. Also you may like to contact

Insha’Allah some of this answers your query.
Wassalamu alaikum
Jazakallahkhair,
